Sprout Wars · last updated 7 November 2026
Sprout Wars is a game about growing land, not about you. We collect what the game needs to run and what helps us make it better, we don't sell any of it, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the game at any time.
Who we are
Sprout Wars is made by Studio31 in Croatia, which is responsible for your data in the game. For anything about your data, write to [email protected].
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address, your player name, and your password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in plain text). If you sign in with Apple, Google or Google Play Games, we keep the ID that service gives us for you, and your email address if it shares one (Apple may give us a private relay address instead).
- Your game. Your land, where you stand on the map, what you do in the game (claiming, harvesting, raids, alliances and so on), your Dew, items and looks, your league and goals.
- Purchases. When you buy Dew in the app, Apple or Google handles the payment: we never see your card or payment details. They tell us what was bought, when, the price and currency, and an order number, so we can give you what you paid for and handle refunds.
- Notifications. If you allow them in the app, a notification token for your phone, the platform (iOS or Android) and the app version, and which kinds of notifications you want.
- How the game is used. Simple events tied to your account: which screens you open, how far you got in the tutorial, which ads you chose to watch, your screen size and whether you play in the app or a browser. We use them to find what's confusing or broken and to balance the game.
- Error reports and server logs. When something breaks: the error message, the screen you were on, and your browser or app version. Our servers also log requests with your IP address.
- Visits to our website's front page. That it was opened, your country (which our network provider, Cloudflare, works out from your IP address), the kind of device (phone or computer), which site or link sent you, and whether you tapped the App Store or Google Play badge. We don't keep your IP address with it and set no cookie: a code that changes every day lets us count visitors without recognising anyone from one day to the next.
- Feedback you send us. Your words and stars, with where you were in the game and your device's screen size and browser, so we can understand it.
We don't ask for your location (no GPS), contacts or photos, and the game itself uses no tracking cookies. The game remembers a few choices on your device (like light or dark colors) in its local storage. Ads in the app work differently: see below.
Ads in the app
In the phone app you can choose to watch a short video ad for a reward (energy, Dew and the like). You never have to: everything can be played without them, and there are no ads on the website.
The ads come through Google AdMob, which runs a quick auction among the ad networks below for each ad you choose to watch. To show and measure ads, and to stop fraud, they may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address (and from it your rough location, like your country or city), device and app details, and how you interact with the ads. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent first, when you open the app; you can change your choice any time in Settings → Privacy choices. On iPhone, the app also asks whether it may use your advertising ID ("Allow tracking?"); if you say no, it isn't shared. Without consent you still get ads, just not personalised ones.
Our ad partners, and how each handles data:
- Google AdMob: policies.google.com/technologies/ads
- Unity Ads: unity.com/legal
- InMobi: inmobi.com/privacy-policy
- Pangle: pangleglobal.com/privacy
Why we use it
- To run the game for you: your account, your land, the world you share with others (our contract with you).
- To give you what you buy, and to keep the records the law asks us to keep (our legal duty).
- To email you about your account: confirming your address, choosing a new password when you forget it, and telling you when your email or password changes. No newsletters, no ads.
- To keep it working and fair, and to make it better (our legitimate interest).
- To send you notifications and show personalised ads, only if you said yes. You can change both any time.
What other players see
Your land shows on their maps as land, without your name. Your allies see your username, your land's strength and your looks. Players who aren't your allies see you as a hooded stranger, unless you choose to show yourself in the shop's Looks. League groups show your username and your points for the week.
Who else handles it
- Our server host (OVHcloud, in the EU), where the game and its database run.
- Scaleway (in France), which delivers the emails we send you.
- Apple and Google: sign-in (if you use it), payments for purchases in the app, and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers notifications to your phone.
- Google AdMob and our ad partners, for the ads you choose to watch in the app (see above).
Some of them are based outside the EU (in the United States). Where data goes there, it is protected by the EU's standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Your account and game: as long as you have an account.
- How the game is used (the usage events above): about 13 months, so we can compare a year with the one before.
- Your land's field notes (what happened on your tiles): 90 days.
- Feedback you send us: 2 years.
- Error logs and server logs: 30 days.
- Database backups: up to 14 days, after which they're overwritten.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (up to 11 years in Croatia), without your name once your account is deleted.
Deleting your account (Settings → Delete account, in the app or on the website) removes your account, your sign-in links, your notification tokens and your game data; your land goes wild for others to claim. If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to forget the link. Usage events stay, but without anything that ties them to you, and feedback you sent stays without your name on it. More on deleting your account.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for something, by writing to [email protected]. Where we use your data because you agreed (notifications, personalised ads), you can take that back any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Croatia that's AZOP (azop.hr).
Children
Sprout Wars isn't meant for children under 13. If you're under 16 and live in the EU, please ask a parent before you play or buy anything. If you think a child gave us their data, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the game when it matters.
